Immanuel Church, Lakeside Park, Kentucky
Members of Matinée Musicale Cincinnati met at Immanuel Church, Lakeside Park, Kentucky, for an inspiring musical program and lunch. Executive Director Judy Martin welcomed everyone, then gave some background information about the first piece on the program, Trio #1 by Franz Danzi (1763-1826). She then performed the four movement piece on violin, along with Melissa Cox, flute, and Ellen Stephens, cello.
Next, soprano Lena Andrews, accompanied by Toni Sheffer on piano, sang three songs, "Love's Philosophy" by Roger Quilter, "Waldeninsamkeit" by Max Reger, and "Glitter and be Gay" from "Candide" by Leonard Bernstein. Her costume changes and props were amazing!
Finally, three students of the Immanuel School of Music performed. Nathan Lehmann, performed the "Prelude" from "Suite No. 2 in G Minor for Solo Cello" by J.S. Bach. Then his sister, Cecilia Lehmann, played the first movement of Mozart's Concerto No. 3 in G Major for Violin, accompanied by Toni Sheffer, piano. Finally, John Opatinski performed the "Prelude" from "Suite No. 3 in C Major for Solo Cello" by J.S. Bach.
After the concert, Ellen Stephens, Director of the Immanuel School of Music, talked about the school's growth as a result of receiving a grant from Matinée Musicale. The mother of Cecilia and Nathan Lehmann expressed her gratitude for everything the school has done for its students.
Judy Martin shared some member news and read a letter from Nancy Martin, who was recovering from an auto accident. Kathy Adams, MMC Board member, spoke about the upcoming Nancy F. Walker Memorial Scholarship Competition in 2025, and Toni Sheffer announced the next Members Program on December 9, 2024. We then moved to the social hall for a delicious box lunch and socializing.
