2021 – 2022 Concert Season

Members Program

Sunday, October 24, 2021

On Sunday, October 24, 2021, Matinée Musicale hosted the first Members Meeting of the season at the home of Louise Dieterle Nippert in Indian Hill. Judy Martin, Administrative Director, welcomed everyone and introduced 3 new members, Kathy Commett, Elizabeth Pridonoff and Sonia Brookhart. Carter Randolph, President of the Greenacres Foundation and L&L Nippert Charitable Foundation, spoke about the mission of Greenacres Arts Center. Donna Griffen, Education Director of Greenacres Foundation, spoke about their programs for youth. Matinée Board member Deborah Grove introduced the first soloist, KayCee Galano, a winner of the Nancy F. Walker Memorial Scholarship Competition.

The musical program consisted of a strikingly difficult "Polonaise Brillante" by Wieniawski, performed by KayCee, violin, and her piano accompanist, Liwang. She also performed "Amazing Grace" for unaccompanied violin. Next, Mary Ann Powers, soprano, and Mari Nishihata Wildenhaus, piano, performed three songs by Vincenzo Bellini and one song by Franz Schubert. Suzanne Bona-Hatem, a well-known personality on WGUC, performed "Five Pieces for Flute and Guitar" by Gwyneth Walker with guitarist Richard Goering. Finally, Trio Jeng, soprano, and Janelle Gelfand, piano, performed four songs by Spanish composers.

After the performance, Isaac Selya, conductor and director of Queen City Opera, gave a presentation about their accomplishments in recent years, thanks to generous grants from Matinée Musicale. This past year, Matinée Musicale Cincinnati awarded $63,000 in grants to 22 applicants in support of their outreach programs that promote music and music education. Finally, all members and guests enjoyed gourmet box dinners and tours of the elegant home of Louis and Louise Nippert, which included an amazing collection of Cincinnati Reds memorabilia.
