Members of Matinée Musicale Cincinnati met at Cincinnati Women's Club for an inspiring program featuring two past winners of our annual Nancy F. Walker Scholarship Competition. Administrative Director Judy Martin welcomed us from the stage, which was beautifully decorated for the holidays.
First, pianist Chang Lu, who won 2nd Place this year in the College Instrumental Division, performed a Mozart sonata and Carnaval, Opus 9, by Robert Schumann. Then baritone Reed Gnepper, who won 1st Place in High School Vocal in both 2018 and 2019, performed a variety of songs, ranging from Christmas songs to a Schumann lieder to opera arias from Pucchini's La Bohème and Mozart's The Magic Flute. A modified version of "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music included many Cincinnati references that brought chuckles from the audience.
After the recital, we adjourned to the dining hall to enjoy an elegant lunch of chicken or salmon Caesar Salad with a variety of homemade rolls and desserts! Many thanks to MMC Board Members Rosalee Campbell and Toni Sheffer for their work organizing this delightful program.
